ABOUT OUR GALLERY

QUARTZ MOUNTAIN ART COLLECTION
The Quartz Mountain Art Collection is owned by the Oklahoma Arts Institute and on permanent loan to the state of Oklahoma for display at Quartz Mountain. Created by Oklahoma Arts Institute faculty and students, the collection holdings include approximately 300 works in the media of photography, drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. The Oklahoma Arts Institute began collecting the artwork of OAI student and faculty artists in 1980. In 1995, a fire swept through Quartz Mountain, destroying the facilities and a portion of the original collection. Thankfully, a majority of the artwork created by faculty artists escaped destruction due to a traveling exhibition. After the fire, OAI began to rebuild the collection, and today it is one of the finest in the region. The rustic design and ample natural lighting in the new Quartz Mountain Lodge beautifully showcases the artwork.

OKLAHOMA SUMMER ARTS INSTITUTE WORK
The Student Art Gallery showcases the remarkable level of artistic excellence achieved by Oklahoma's most talented high schools students. The artwork included in the Gallery is a small portion of the work produced by drawing/painting and photography students during the two-week Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain. The Gallery features many styles of drawing and painting, including self-portraits, landscapes, abstract art and more. The black and white and color photography represents a great variety of subject matter, with an emphasis on the people and scenery of southwest Oklahoma. 2006 OSAI drawing/painting students studied with Jakki Kouffman of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the 2006 photography class was led by Steve Simon of New York City.

A portion of the Student Art Gallery tours the state as the "Tour de Quartz" exhibition. Click here for tour dates and locations. At the conclusion of the tour in spring of 2007, the artwork will be sold at the Oklahoma Originals Art Sale and Auction, benefiting the Oklahoma Arts Institute.
