The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Chorus is a 45-member chamber choir led by internationally recognized conductors and assisted by expert vocal teachers/coaches. The daily schedule includes full choir rehearsals as well as individual and sectional coaching. Students may also participate in supplemental study and ensemble work. Repertoire consists of a wide variety of standard and contemporary choral literature. The choir performs two concerts during the Institute.

Application Requirements:

1) As soon as possible, call the Oklahoma Arts Institute office at (405) 321-9000 to schedule attendance at one of the auditions. Audition spaces fill quickly, and video tapes are not accepted as a substitute for live auditions.

2) Download and submit a complete application.

Audition Requirements:
• Please arrive early to check in and warm up. Auditions are blind and will be taped for adjudication at a later date.
• Vocalize as requested by the facilitator.
• Sing short musical examples as played by the facilitator to determine tonal memory.
• Perform a short sight-reading exercise.
• Sing the “Star Spangled Banner” a cappella in concert style. Singers who use an overly-ornamented or pop style will be disqualified. Music and words do NOT have to be memorized. The beginning pitch will be provided by the facilitator. Singers must use one of the following keys:
o Soprano: D-flat, beginning pitch A-flat
o Alto: A-flat, beginning pitch E-flat
o Tenor: B-flat, beginning pitch F
o Bass: G, beginning pitch D

Judging Criteria:

  • Tone
  • Technique
  • Musicality
  • Sight-reading
  • Tonal Memory

  • Adjudicators are college faculty, professional musicians, and members of the Oklahoma Arts Institute's Music Advisory Panel.
