Film & Video
Students shoot and edit a short film based on a pre-selected script. Students work as a group and rotate through the various roles on a film set (director, grip, props, etc.) Students learn elements of film language, film appreciation, and screenwriting for documentary, fiction television, and theatrical film release. The student film is screened in a public exhibition. Up to 16 students are accepted.

1) As soon as possible, call the Oklahoma Arts Institute office at (405) 321-9000 to schedule an interview. Interview spaces fill quickly.

2) Download and submit a complete application.

Interview Guidelines:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview to complete a questionnaire about your work. Please bring the following items to your interview:

* A sample of your creative writing (screenwriting, plays, scenes or storyboard). Clearly mark each page with your name.

* A 2 – 3 minute fiction or documentary DVD or VHS video that you scripted and shot. Clearly mark the videotape with your name. The Oklahoma Arts Institute will retain your materials for consideration.

* If you would like your materials returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped (not metered) packing envelope for returning your material. Weigh the envelope with your material inside to determine the required postage BEFORE your interview. Videos with inadequate postage will not be returned. The Oklahoma Arts Institute is not responsible for damage or loss.

Judging Criteria:

  • Composition
  • Subject
  • Technique
  • Creativity

  • Adjudicators are members of the Oklahoma Arts Institute's Film/Video and Visual Arts Advisory Panels.
